The Utopia Lives on the Dance Floor

Alice Bardou

Nightclubs become a parasite that purged its host of its excesses to find the elements it needed to thrive. A club with no walls, it occupies the urban symbols of political and social oppression. It unfolds itself in the streets, in order to become visible. The parasite nightclub sheds light on the disappearance of theses spaces, claiming back the right to nightclubbing.
Parasitic nightclubs would be embodied in the act of protesting, creating a temporary autonomous zones, existing momentarily as a nomadic, independent enclave with agreed borders. This approach to club culture allows clubbers to grieve from the loss of nightclubs, but also to bring back the desire of protecting club culture.
