Expendible Ch/air
Romain Albers
Inflatable toys are one of the easiest and cheapest ways to create three dimensional volumes. Such products are often simplified representations of their real-life counterparts, with a softness and curviness that exudes playfulness and innocence. Due to the low cost of production, however, they are perceived as single-use objects with a short lifespan. By manipulating and assembling inflatables in an unconventional setting, Romain Albers turns these cheap throwaways into items of value. Stripped of their colours, they form an iconic chair. Witty, sleek and elegant, the play of harmonious lines and defined shapes disentangles the material from its associated context.
