My Body of Water—What Bears the Message
"My Body of Water—What Bears the Message explores the relationship between people and underwater environments as mediated by technology, focusing on the repetitive listening practices of fishermen. A film, which combines archival scientific footage with
ocean images and noises captured using self-made tools, is projected onto a basin filled with water.
Drawing on Marshall McLuhan’s metaphor that a fish cannot perceive water, the project highlights how people are often unaware of how technology shapes their perceptions and interactions with environments. As technology evolves, so too does our understanding and manipulation of these environments, creating a feedback loop where tools and knowledge continuously influence each other. This project reflects on how our perception of water as an object of knowledge both shapes and is shaped by technological developments."
