The Bathroom Confessional
"Traditionally, stained glass decorated churches and served as a way to portray stories of the bible to uneducated and illiterate believers. With the decline of organised religion in Western societies, people gravitate towards exercising their faith in new and radical ways. Modern youth in particular began to find their spirituality in the form of electronic dance culture. Today, rave culture serves as our generation’s religious congregation, where prayer takes place in clubs, not churches.
By developing a new and innovative way of producing complex stained glass works, 'The Bathroom Confessional' documents the outlet that rave culture has become for spirituality, hedonism, sexual freedom and activism. In a poetic comparison between clubs and church, Mabel Dapling designed a stained glass urinal divider which depicts an impression of rave culture."
