Rapid Foot Evolutions
Kristiyan Hristov
A collection of footwear attachments inspired by animal feet helps human bodies in adapting to rapidly changing environments.
The climate is rapidly changing. Our bodies need to adapt at a faster rate to keep up with unpredictable changes in our environment. Kristiyan Hristov thoroughly examined how animals use specialized body parts and biological structures to adjust to their surroundings. He focused on animal feet, which come in many shapes equipped with an impressive array of highly specialized adaptations, like the Gecko's ability to grip. Their functional and aesthetic qualities were adapted to the human foot through simulated rapid human evolution. Kristiyan designed numerous possible foot variations in a VR environment and 3D printed the most successful adaptations using a flexible material. A collection of footwear attachments was developed that proposes a methodology that can help us meet the standards of future environments.
