Gravitate

Felina Hernández del Barrio

# “The wearer can choose a specific weight with precision, as different elements can be linked to increase or decrease the effects of gravity.”

Wanting to unite and explore her twin interests of textiles and physics, Felina Hernández del Barrio searched for a common thread between the two, and found it in gravity. Approaching wearable design with this phenomenon in mind, she gained new insights into how the dynamics of textiles can be manipulated. The result is ‘Gravitate’, an accessory collection as a material exploration in relation to gravity. Sand and stones – representatives of ‘mass’ – are sealed into transparent pockets and channels that can be clipped, buckled or hung around the body to change the drape and behaviour of garments. A hemline hovers, a neckline is elongated, and grains trickle one-by-one like sand through an hourglass.
