Threads of Influence
Felicita Gāga
A digital dress made of social media content contrasts traditional and contemporary perspectives on Latvian folklore.
During her online research into traditional Latvian folkwear, Felicity Gāga was inspired by the stream of on-screen images that placed folklore in an entirely different context. In ‘Threads of Influence’ she showcases a digital dress made of social media noise, uncomfortable to embrace and yet too addictive to let go of completely. Through the innovative use of green screen technology, the online content is seamlessly integrated into the garment, heightening the conflict with the offline environment. The robe only exists on screen, where it comes alive with ever-changing visuals. Contemporary folkwear emerges as a bold statement, challenging viewers to reconsider cultural heritage not as a relic of the past, but as an embrace of today's rapidly shifting patterns.
