Duck The Norm
"Duck The Norm examines archival practices in the community of Waldwisse, a village of 800 residents located in eastern France. Inspired by the traditional hook-a-duck game present at village festivals in the region, the project collaborated with families and community members to collect testimonies, photographs, elements of the local language, and details about the village’s history. Exploring these stories at their own pace, Duck The Norm uses a non-linear approach that reconstitutes memories one by one, addressing gaps in the official local archives,.
Waldwisse and other ‘dormitory towns’ – places where most of the population work somewhere else – struggle with disconnection and a declining sense of community. The project proposes a playful way to foster a connection with the town, encouraging residents, old and new, to feel invested in the shared narrative of their place."
