The Lake Event

In a lake in the Latvian countryside, an annual music event is held at 5:00 AM on an August morning. Visitors arrive in the dark, take their boats out to water and wait for the sun to arrive while musicians perform on a floating stage. Zane Priede has created the designs for the 2016 edition: scenery, costumes, and a lighting plan. All draw on the different phases of sleep, as things take place at a time when our subconscious is usually active. Priede’s dreamscape reflects this in the constellation of her architectural shapes and a black-and-white colour scheme, which gives the set the ability to change its appearance with the approaching dawn.
