We Killed You

Motivated by the personal loss of a friend to suicide, Soyoun Shin’s suicide prevention video is a call to recognise suicidal people as significant of underlying societal problems. Treating suicides as isolated personal cases overlooks the fact that the suicide rate in South Korea is among the highest in the world. An actual suicide event is also narrated through an installation using audio and 3D models to create a non-linear narrative that gives insight into how seemingly minor everyday problems can trigger suicidal behaviour. Without a protagonist, the installation highlights that suicide is a social death.
