Common Thread

Silvia Catarozzo

On average, Dutch sheep produce about 2 million kilos of wool per year. About 50% is collected and shipped from the port of Rotterdam to the port of Shanghai, accumulating unnecessary environmental burdens. Common Thread aims to revalorise Dutch wools and their usage in local manufacturing, and in the long-term, initiate a more sustainable, fair and independent wool production process in Europe. As a start, a necessary junction between Italy and the Netherlands has been established to transform Dutch wool into a semi-finished product that can be sold through Common Thread’s network, which guarantees high-quality, local and traceable products for consumers, and a fair income for farmers.
