Knitted Light
Together, light and textile can bring about magical stories. Sangmin Oh worked with the product developers at the TextielLab on his sculptures that blend artificial light into fabric. Experimenting with daring combinations of elastic and rigid yarns – elastane and monofilament – he created a group of coral-like creatures. Where the different yarns meet, the clash between contraction and expansion leads to a new type of formative fun, in an intriguing play of texture. As night falls, the integrated light brings this group of mythical creatures to life. The glow-in-the-dark effect after the light is turned off pays homage to the coral reefs beneath the surface, which emit a similar glow.
