Linoleum
You’ve walked on it in schools, hospitals, airports and flats: linoleum. The recipe for it, entirely renewable resources, hasn’t changed in over a hundred years. With this project, Lina Chi invites us to examine a familiar material by reintroducing the use of linoleum, but this time not as flooring. Through folding and cutting, Lina transforms sheets of linoleum into structurally sound stools, benches and tables, without using adhesives or permanent bindings. The material can easily be reshaped and recycled. Allowing it to curl, fall, bend and move in its own distinctive way, Lina works from the essence of the material rather than towards the idealization of its properties.
