Biota: Seasonal Scavenging
Floriane Dubreuil
“Seasonal scavenging is like painting a portrait of a town and its inhabitants”
What: Collections of handcrafted objects composed of organic and inorganic materials harvested within a three-kilometre radius from season to season.
Why: Floriane Dubreuil believes that the future should not be tied to an industry of selling new products but to an industry of adjusting what exists. To counter the consumption of resources, she proposes an alternative ‘gentle production’, based on immediately recovering what has been discarded. Floriane wishes to positively alter our perception of producing, using and throwing out objects.
How: By analysing material fluctuations in her locality, Floriane compiles a library of unwanted metal, plastic, wood, glass and so on. Since each season generates a different range of materials, she adapts her design templates accordingly, and not the other way around.
